Please join us at our Lake Norman Socrates Book Club on April 7th. It will be hosted by friends of Socrates, and club members will meet at The Serve Pickleball and Kitchen and receive a complimentary copy of the book their first time joining. Together we’ll read and share the kind of conversations Socrates in the City is known for: asking life’s biggest questions with humor and even, perhaps, a bit of fun. All we ask is that you show up!
The Spring book will be Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesterton
After the main discussion, stick around for lite bites and drinks, and time to connect. To gather together with a group of thoughtful, like-minded people and wrestle with the deeper questions of life, God, and other “small topics” is what this community is all about.
So, whether you’re new to Socrates in the City, or have been with us from the beginning, this is your opportunity to dive deeper with meaningful conversations and lasting connections.
About Orthodoxy by GK Chesterton
In Orthodoxy, G.K. Chesterton’s most enduring work, Chesterton argues that the drama and mystery of Christianity are sanity and that the naturalistic machinations of atheism are madness. We’ve all heard common reactions to orthodox Christian belief: Antiquated. Unimaginative. Repressive. Even Christians themselves are guilty of discarding. As Charles Colson writes in the forward, “Evangelicals, despite their professed belief in the Bible, have not been exempt from the influence of the postmodern spirit.” This postmodern spirit is averse to Truth and the obedience that follows. People today, as in Chesterton’s day, continue to look anywhere but heavenward for something to believe in. Chesterton tells us why we simply must look heavenward, and why we’ll be glad we did.
