Alan Jacobs
Alan Jacobs is Distinguished Professor of the Humanities in the Honors Program at Baylor University. He is also a Resident Fellow of Baylor’s Institute for the Studies of Religion. Jacobs is a contributing editor of The New Atlantis: A Journal of Technology and Society and a correspondent for the Technology Channel of The Atlantic.
A native of Alabama, he earned his B.A. at the University of Alabama, and his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia. Jacob’s teaching and scholarly interests include, Modern British and British Commonwealth literature; Christian theology and literature; literature and religion; literary theory and the history of criticism; technologies of reading, writing, and research.
Jacobs is the author of several books including What Became of Wystan?: Change and Continuity in Auden’s Poetry (1998); A Visit to Vanity Fair: Moral Essays on the Present Age (2001); The Narnian: The Life and Imagination of C.S. Lewis (2008); The Pleasures of Reading in an Age of Distraction (2011); The “Book of Common Prayer”: A Biography (2013); and How to Think: A Survival Guide for a World at Odds (2017).
